Lang and Co. was founded in 1852 by Max Lang during the Northern California Gold Rush. Lang and Co. formed the National Grocery Company in 1902, which became a major wholesale grocery distribution company for the Pacific Northwest.
Under the guidance of 23-year-old Richard E. Lang, the company grew into a multi-branch, statewide chain of wholesale outlets during the Great Depression. Lang and Co. then became widely diversified with the development of Seattle's first-ever indoor shopping mall and the distribution of Olympia Beer with its partner, at that time, former Washington Governor Albert D. Rossellini.
Recognizing the changes in the food and spirit business, Richard E. Lang changed Lang and Co. from a family-controlled business to a closed-end investment company. This forged a solid base for continual growth, benefitting its members and investors. May, 1981 this growth culminated with a merge with Safeco Income Fund. Tina Lang, only granddaughter to Richard E. Lang continued in the world of investment, real-estate, business and strategies; marrying entrepreneur, Alan Turbin and co-co-founded the highly successful Nationwide Title Clearing (NTC) with just three others. NTC became one of the country's leading service providers to the mortgage and financial services industry, earning prestigious spots on Inc. 5000 list in 2012 and 2013 and #51 in Inc.'s Top Real Estate Companies 2013 despite the roughest economy since the Great Depression. Nationwide Title Clearing was purchased in 2021 by Covius one of the largest full-service mortgage servicers in the US, maintaining employment for all their 700 employees.
Lang and Turbin merged their knowledge and skills to expand and grow personal and business ventures, partnerships, real-estate, philanthropy and volunteer work while raising their children. Their middle son, Cassidy Turbin, a very active partner in Lang and Co. Inc. is also an accomplished music producer, audio engineer and percussionist who to date has received 5 Grammy Awards for his audio engineering work.
Lang and Co. Inc entertains opportunities worldwide and its members support several non-profit groups and groups that advocate family and good business values, humane treatment of individuals, Women, the Arts and the Planet.
